It is each guests responsibility to research and purchase their own Medical, Evacuation, and/or Trip Cancellation Insurance to ensure full coverage in the event of illness, injury, or travel interruptions.
There are many options available, so take the time to find a plan that aligns with your risk tolerance and fully protects you and your group. Mount Carlyle Lodge and the BLBCA recommend Acera Insurance, a B.C.-based company specializing in insurance for the adventure tourism and ski industry. We also recommend checking out options with The American Alpine Club (AAC) for our USA guests, or the other options below.
In the event of a medical evacuation the helicopter and associated costs are up to guests/group.
Please ensure you and every member of your group has read the waiver (posted on our website and on this page) and understands all that it encompasses. It is imperative that everyone in the group has pre read the waiver of release and comprehends what they are signing.
Waivers will be signed in person the night before your trip when your group meets the custodian in Kaslo. Mount Carlyle will provide printed waivers so there’s no need print ‘em out. All waivers must be presented and witnessed in person by a Carlyle Lodge employee.

We recommend that all groups carry a first aid kit (or two) while skiing as well as at least 1 radio per group to communicate back to the lodge with. Regularly checking your safety gear and practicing with your transceivers keeps you ready to respond. We encourage all groups to do an avalanche rescue scenario on their first day before going skiing.
Please note that KMH Inc. does not cover any emergency evacuation costs. These costs are the sole responsibility of the individual or group. In the event of an emergency, our custodians will coordinate and assist with communications to initiate our Emergency Response Plan and connect your group with the appropriate outside resources.
