Your Custodian will contact the Trip Leader about one to two weeks before your trip to confirm details and help with final preparations.
Please follow these steps to ensure everything runs smoothly:
Confirm Accommodation in Kaslo: Let your custodian know where your group will be staying in Kaslo prior to your flight.
Arrange Waiver Signing: Plan to meet your custodian the evening before your flight — typically between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Carlyle Lodge Office in Kaslo. After signing waivers, groups often head to Buddy’s Pizza for dinner. Other options include the Angry Hen & the Waypoint at Kaslo Hotel.
Exchange Contact Information: Make sure to exchange contact information with your custodian so you can stay in touch about any updates or changes.
Submit Breakfast Pre-Order Form: Custodian will send the form 2 weeks before your trip, return it filled out 1 week before trip
Surrounded by the big mountains our roads also get big dumps and road closures. Good winter tires are necessary when driving in the Kootenay's. Check our local weather before travels and update yourself on the road conditions on Drive BC and boarder crossings times. Kaslo is located at the junction of Hwy 31 and Hwy 31A.
We ask that all guests arrive in Kaslo the Saturday night before Sunday fly day.
There is always the unlikely possibility that due to weather the helicopter is unable to fly. For this reason, we recommend people plan their outgoing travel with an extra day on the end of the trip.
If you have an extra day you can explore Kaslo and surrounding area or hit the Ainsworth Hotsprings 15mins from Kaslo
Carlyle is in remote mountain terrain. We have been able to regularly helicopter exchange with minimal delays in the past but there is no guarantee that we will be able to fly on the scheduled exchange day. Kaslo is also in a remote location, provide ample time for driving and be aware of weather conditions.
Give yerself extra travel time in case there are any unforeseen delays.
"In going" groups are responsible for any added expenses such as accommodations and meals (get travel insurance)
"Out coming" groups are not charged for lodge rental and must remain on stand-by during weather delays (no shredding)
